FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force has received a check for $1,000 from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation and the Community Matters More program. In January, the foundation launched the Community Matters More program of charitable giving statewide.

Bangor Savings Bank and the Community Matters More program announced the winners at the end of March, giving a total of $100,000 to local nonprofits that were chosen by the community-wide vote, with eight top vote-getters receiving $5,000 grants and 60 additional organizations receiving $1,000 grants. Maine residents cast more than 86,000 votes for more than 2,900 nonprofit organizations and the Franklin County Children’s Task Force was one of the recipients.

In addition to financial support, 48 organizations initially listed on the Community Matters More ballot received exposure for their community missions from WGAN 560 Newsradio and Blueberry Broadcasting as part of the partnership.

Bangor Savings Bank Senior Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer Yellow Light Breen said, “The level of public participation in Community Matters More has been phenomenal. This was an astounding outpouring of community participation. Both the number of votes cast and the number of nonprofit organizations receiving support exceeded what we ever could have expected in our wildest imaginations. We know that folks in Maine are heavily committed to their communities, and that many small nonprofits are critical to the fabric and quality of life of our communities. The public involvement in Community Matters More demonstrates that one more time. We are proud to have our company join in their commitment by supporting causes that matter most to the people of Maine.”
