FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Farm Bureau and the Maine Antique Tractor Club held the second annual Maine pie baking and photography contests during the antique tractor show held recently at the Farmington Fairgrounds. A total of 35 photos were entered this year: seven in the youth category and 28 in the adult division. Nine pies were submitted.
Pie contest winners were as follows:
Apple category: first, Judy Smith, East Dixfield; second, Isaac Vaillancourt, Anson; fruit, first, strawberry glace, Donna Clark, Madison; second, rhubarb, David Hargreaves, New Vineyard; third, rhubarb, Taffy Davis, Farmington.
Other category: first, custard, Judy Smith, East Dixfield; second, mincemeat, David Hargreaves, New Vineyard.
Best of the Best: Clark’s strawberry glace pie.
Winners in the photography contest were:
Youth division: first (tie), Jessica Vaillencourt, Anson, and Justin Richards, Dixfield; second, Zaria Dillingham, Skowhegan; third, Jessica Vaillencourt, Anson.
Adult division: first, James Dufour, Jay; second, Laurie Pratt, Weld; third, Norma Hawkes, Fayette.
Because so many different photos were entered this year, it was decided to have a People’s Choice Award. Visitors to the tractor show on Saturday morning had the chance to vote for their favorite photograph. Laurie Pratt of Weld won the award.
Several local businesses donated items or gift certificates which were presented when the winners were announced.
Following the awards presentations, the pies were auctioned off by Sam Adams. The proceeds will benefit the Ronald MacDonald Houses of Maine and help fund consumer education events in Franklin County.
