LEWISTON — A local census awareness campaign will kick off with a booth this weekend at the Great Falls Balloon Festival.

Members of the L/A Complete Count Committee will set up a booth at the festival, handing out information about the census, as well as trinkets.

The federal government performs the national census every 10 years. It’s used to determine congressional districts, state legislative districts, county districts and municipal wards. That information also determines how federal aid for state and local government is distributed.

The U.S. Census Bureau is scheduled to begin the count in April. Local organizers are hoping to encourage people to make sure they take part and are counted.
