MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Trucks are on their way to Target Field with the grass for the Twins’ new ballpark.

According to the team, workers will begin laying large rolls of dark green Kentucky Bluegrass and finish the installation by Friday morning. The grass was grown at Graff’s Turf Farms in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and sent to Minnesota on refrigerated trucks.

The Twins haven’t played on real blades since they left Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington after the 1981 season.

Underneath the grass at Target Field has been built a complex heating, irrigation and drainage system to help the sod stay healthy during rough weather. The heating pipes will allow the grass to green up by opening day next April.
