The Dempsey Center offers “The Art of Caregiving” workshop

 LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a three-part workshop titled “The Art of Caregiving.” All sessions are free and will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays at 12 High Street on the CMMC campus. The schedule is as follows: 

Session one: “Caregiving Tips,” Monday, Aug. 31, conference rooms A and . Attendees will learn the basics of hands-on caregiving, including ways to bring physical comfort and meet the practical needs of a loved one. Pain, fatigue, nutritional challenges and other topics will be addressed. 

Session two: “Compassionate Self-Care,” Monday, Sept. 14, in conference room C. The workshop will cover ways that caregivers can maintain a daily practice of being compassionate to themselves and take time to assess their own needs. 

Session three: “Advocating for Your Loved One,” Monday, Sept. 21, in conference room C. The final session will cover ways to navigate the maze of medical, insurance and financial issues through clear and comfortable communication with healthcare personnel and insurance companies.
