Lewiston firefighters were called to Bates Fabrics late Monday night for a fire in weaving shed number five.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 11:17 p.m., but because of the volume of smoke involved, it was almost 1:30 a.m. before the units cleared from the scene.

Damage was initially estimated at between $3,000 and $5,000, but until the smoke had cleared no definite figure was available.

Police officers at the scene said no one was injured in the fire.
