LOCKE MILLS – The American Legion Auxiliary 68 resented a check to the Boston Shrine Hospital for Children board chairman on June 18.  Auxiliary President Jamie Hastings chose the Shrine Hospital as her special project.
The unit was able to raise $2,500, and members were invited to present the donation at the June board of directors meeting.  Attending members were Hazel Cole, Carolyn Johnson, Jamie Hastings and Anita Hakala.
The work that goes into caring for the patients at the Shrine Burn Center in Boston is something that Hastings knows about first hand.  In January 1999 she was admitted to the center with third degree burns on both hands. Due to the care at the hospital, Hastings was able to return home before her 18th birthday.
The Auxiliary will continue to support the hospital by collecting tabs from cans and donating them to the Shriners who, in turn, recycle them and use the money to improve the lives of the children staying in the hospital.
Tabs collected can be dropped off at Legion Post 68 or call Hastings at 674-2540.
