FARMINGTON — Western Maine Community Action arranged the purchase of 82 High Street, a sub-standard, low-income apartment and mobile home park in 1988.
A coalition of community, churches, nonprofit and state organizations invested more than $1 million and 11,000 volunteer hours improving the property. Since completion of the renovations, many low income families have been able to rent.
There will be a community celebration of the revitalization of 82 High Street from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 (rain date Sept. 13). The tenants, board and community partners invite all to a barbecue followed by a short celebratory program at 1 p.m. After the program there will be music, games and an opportunity to view a slide show and storyboard highlighting the project.
