AUBURN — Portland favorite George Hamm will open a new series of weekly Saturday Night Comedy Shows at the Fireside Inn & Suites on Saturday, Sept. 26. He will be joined by Vermont native E.J. Murphy and Boston’s Steve Macone.
Both the restaurant and comedy shows have been revamped for 2009. Dinner-show packages are available for $25. Show-only tickets are $14, $12 with a reservation.
Among the other acts scheduled are Dave Rattigan, whose Portland-recorded CD has received heavy play on XM-Sirius Satellite Radio and who plays a beleaguered businessman in an Olympia Sports commercial with Red Sox field reporter Heidi Watney; Steve Donovan, host of the popular New England TV show “Community Auditions;” Tim McIntire, “Comedy Central;” Amy Tee, from the film “Laughing Matters: Next Gen;” Joe Wong who’s appeared on Letterman and Ellen shows; and Richmond native Mitch Stinson.
Hamm is well known to Maine audiences as a frequent visitor to Portland’s Comedy Connection. He has performed across the United States, including the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the Improv in Los Angeles, The Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory in Hollywood and the Laugh Factory in Hawaii. In the past couple of years, Hamm has taken his act to China, and he just recently returned from Mexico.
In August of 2007, one of Hamm’s lifelong dreams became a reality when he performed on Broadway.
Hamm has also opened for bands such as Cheap Trick, Tower of Power and blues legend Leon Redbone. He has opened for comedians Jay Mohr, Robert Schimmel, Bob Marley, Kevin Nealon, Anthony Clark and Harland Williams. Hamm has appeared in three independent films over the past several years: “Sundowning,” “Open-Mic” and “Pennyweight.” All three are available on DVD.
