DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you please find out if they are still holding the farmers market at the corner of Main and Academy streets in Auburn on Fridays? I’ve gone the last two weeks on Friday and did not see any sign of a market. Thank you. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Unfortunately, that farmers market has closed for the season. According to Sherry Blumenthal of St. Mary’s Health System and the Great Falls Farmers and Artisans Market Association, there was not enough traffic at that site. She said they put up a sign telling customers it had closed, but perhaps it has been removed.

There are, however, farmers markets in Lewiston that are still open for business, probably through the end of October, depending on the weather and the produce. There is one at Kennedy Park at the corner of Bates and Pine streets on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m., and another at Lafayette Street and Campus Avenue on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with their usual wide array of fresh foods, the markets are currently featuring apple cider, apples and baked goods.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I own a small local company and strongly believe in giving back to the community. Our community happens to be not human but rather feline, and they, along with other animals, need our help in this weak economy. I’ve donated a 5-foot-tall pagoda tree to the Maine State Society for Protection of Animals for their upcoming raffle to benefit the animals on the farm in South Windham. Information can be found on their Web site at www.msspa.org/news/win-pagoda-tree. The society will be hosting the Animal Well Fair on Oct. 11, and admission is free. Please consider giving to this worthy cause. — Bryan, Greene

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I particularly enjoyed the series in the newspaper this spring about how to save money. There was one thing that I wished I had seen, so maybe you can help out. Do you know of a shoe repair shop or cobbler somewhere in this area? There used to be one in Lewiston called Obie’s, but I believe that closed. Shoes cost so much to buy, I would rather have them fixed if I can. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Obie’s did indeed close some time ago, and we don’t know of any other shoe repair shops in L-A. There are two others reasonably close by. One is in Brunswick: Midcoast Shoe Repair, 14 Maine St., 725-8557, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The other is in Augusta: Tom Finn Shoe Repair, 165 Water St., 623-8491, open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Finn says he repairs anything leather, as well as shoes.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Aug. 11, the West Minot Union Church was host to a potluck and missionary speaker, Steve Bradley, held at the West Minot Grange. Someone left behind a deep blue raincoat. We are hoping the owner reads the Sun Journal and will call Janice at 345-3455 so we can return it. Thank you. — Beverly Spofford, Hebron

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a Look magazine from 1964, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy memorial issue from Nov. 17, 1964, one year after his assassination. I would like to know how much it is worth. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: A quick search of the Internet showed several for sale at places such as eBay and Craigslist for prices ranging from $2 to $12. Readers may be able to offer additional information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a consignment shop that is in Rumford or close by. I have a lot of nice clothing that would help a working woman. — No Name, Rumford
