Edward H. Smith
1917 – 2009

CONYERS, Ga. — Edward H. Smith, 91, formerly of Rumford, died Saturday, Oct. 3, in Conyers, Ga.

He was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Carthage, a son of Harry and Sadie Smith. He graduated from Wilson Academy in 1935. A resident of the community until November 2008, he had been employed with the Oxford Paper Co. for more than 37 years.

In 1942, he was drafted into the Army with the Signal Corp during World War II, where he served in Europe and North Africa.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening; he specialized in gladiolas.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Huntsinger of Conyers, Ga., and Mrs. Forest (Kathy) Fish of Wasilla, Ark.; one sister, Roberta Tremblay of Rumford; five grandchildren, Alan and Scott Huntsinger of Conyers, Ga., Melissa Fish of Tacoma, Wash., Patricia Komakhuk of Wasilla, Ark., and Monique Lemelin of East Lehigh Acres, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude Marie Smith; his daughter, Patricia Chagnon; two brothers, Robert and Reginald Smith; two sisters, Vera and Catherine; and one grandchild, Deborah Huntsinger.
