RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The list of proposed nicknames for Richmond’s new minor-league baseball team has been pared to five finalists.

The Double-A team’s front office has chosen Flatheads, Flying Squirrels, Hambones, Rock Hoppers and Rhinos out of more than 6,000 entries.

The public can vote online, although team officials will have the final say. The winner will be announced by Oct. 15.

The Richmond team is formerly the Connecticut Defenders of the Eastern League and is affiliated with the San Francisco Giants.
