Board: Sabattus Selectmen
Met: Tuesday night
Town manager search
Issue: Sabattus needs a new town manager; Jim Bennett is serving as interim and helping on that search. (Part of his own contract is that he’s not a candidate.)
The scoop: Selectmen named a hiring committee: Michael Tardy, Tamela Paradis, Jon-Paul Levesque, Ann Marie Dion, J.P. Normand LaPlante, Patrick Cyr, Connie Castonguay and Loretta Hinkley.
Up next: That group will meet at the town office at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The public’s invited.
New Web site
Issue: Several months back selectmen asked for a new, updated Web site.
The scoop: It’s ready: www.sabattus.org with sections on government and for residents, visitors and businesses.
Up next: Bennett said selectmen’s agendas and any other information in their regular packets will be posted online the Friday before their meetings. Information related to the town manager search will also be going up.
Free wood
Issue: Public Works has a pile of wood cut during projects over the summer; several families in town could use it for heat this winter.
The scoop: Selectmen approved getting a list from Sister Lucille at the Loaves and Fishes food pantry of families who need the help.
Up next: Soon, Public Works will deliver the wood to them.
New meeting policy
Issue: Town charter had been vague about the steps to call a special selectmen’s meeting.
The scoop: Selectmen adopted a new four-part policy. That policy, according to a summary from the town clerk: “The meeting or workshop will be called by the chair or by three or more members of the board; it must be published in the newspaper, if not enough notice is given, the meeting will be scheduled for a later date; the meeting will be posted on the town’s Web site and on the town’s electronic sign; an agenda or notice of a workshop will be e-mailed to everyone who is currently receiving the selectmen’s agenda.”
