NORWAY — Ganderia Middle School students will act for safe carbon dioxide levels from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, on Main Street.
The students will join more than 3,000 groups from 158 different countries around the world to raise awareness of the number 350, which represents the safe amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, in parts per million (ppm).
The atmosphere now contains over 385 ppm of carbon dioxide. Organized by a movement called 350.org, The International Day of Climate Action will take place before the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December, where negotiators will try to come to forge a new global climate policy to replace the expiring Kyoto Protocol.
Members of the community are invited to join Ganderia Middle School students on Main Street for sidewalk chalk art. The students will have a display at Witherall Park, across form the library, with more information about the topic. There will be buckets of sidewalk chalk distributed along the sidewalks of Main Street and the theme of the sidewalk art will revolve around the number 350.
Sustainable Oxford Hills will also participate in the International Day of Climate Action and will host the Renewable Energy Festival at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School on Oct. 24.
