LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer Zumba for ages 14 and up from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 10 through Dec. 15. ZumbAtomic, for children ages 4 to 7, will be offered from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Nov. 7 through Dec. 12, with no class on Nov. 28.

“Most people have never experienced a workout quite like Zumba before,” said Cynthia Nicholas, the class instructor. “Zumba has become a fitness sensation.”

Zumba combines a fusion of Latin and world music with a dance theme to create a dynamic and effective fitness system. Zumba utilizes principles of aerobic and fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps.

“I am proud that through my partnership with the YWCA of Central Maine, we are able to bring the first ZumbAtomic class to Lewiston and Auburn,” said Nicholas. ZumbAtomic is a program for children ages 4 to 7 that uses the Zumba fitness concept. With kid-friendly songs, dances and movement, ZumbAtomic promotes a healthy lifestyle and helps children incorporate exercise into their daily routines.

The six-week Zumba session costs $42 for YWCA members and $48 for nonmembers. The five-week ZumbAtomic session costs $40 for YWCA members and $45 for nonmembers. All classes will take place in the gym at the YWCA of Central Maine, 130 East Ave.

Limited space is available for the classes. Register by calling the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050 or via e-mail at [email protected].
