BANGOR — Junior forward Alex Parker scored two goals and an assist to lead St. Dom’s to a 5-2 victory over Bangor in hockey action Saturday.

The Saints (1-0) built a commanding lead in the first period, outshooting the opposition 15-5 and taking a 4-0 lead. Dakota Keene chipped in with a goal and assist for St. Dom’s.

The Rams (0-1) cut their deficit in half in the second period on goals from Devon Lyshon and Nic Cota. Each player assisted on the other’s goal for all of the scoring action Bangor was able to muster.

Goalie Shayne Curtis made 29 saves for the Saints, while Zack Hamilton prevented 24 for the Rams.

St. Dom’s 7, Poland-Gray New Gloucester

HEBRON — Junior forward Alex Parker scored two goals and an assist to lead St. Dom’s to a 7-3 victory over Poland-Gray New Gloucester in hockey action Monday.

The Saints (2-0) outscored the Patriotic Knights (0-2) in each quarter, blanking them 2-0 in the middle frame. Sophomore forwards Spencer Martin and Cody Rodrigue each contributed a goal and two assists for the St. Dom’s.

Junior center Kolby Arnold netted two of Poland-Gray New Gloucester’s three tallies in the losing effort.

Boys’ basketball

Yarmouth 53, Poland 37

YARMOUTH –  Senior forward Evan Henry recorded 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointer, to lead Yarmouth to a 53-37 victory over Poland in WMC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Knights regrouped in the third quarter to cut the deficit to within four points, but ran out of gas from there. Senior guard Kyle MacVane posted a team-high 14 points for Poland.

Junior guard Luke Pierce contributed to the Clipper’s strong offense with four field goals and four free throws for 12 points in the winning effort.

Livermore Falls 94, Mt. Abram 41

SALEM — Senior guard Chandler White tossed a game-high 23 points to lead Livermore Falls to a 94-41 rout over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basektball action Monday evening.

The Andies trekked upwards and onwards, hiking to new heights with each passing quarter. Senior guard Khyle Whittemore scored 15 points, while senior forward Tom Ventrella pitched in with 14 points. The Andies outscored Mt. Abram 27-5 in the final frame.

Senior guard Jimmy Barker was at the helm for the Roadrunners, scoring 19 points on seven field goals, including three from beyond the arc, and a pair of free throws in the losing effort.

Dirigo 77, Carrabec 42

NOTH ANSON — Senior guard Tyler Chiasson notched a commanding 18 points to lead Dirigo to a 77-42 triumph over Carrabec in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.

The Cougars (2-0) put on an offensive show in the second quarter, stealing the ball at will, and posting a 37-10 margin en route to a 54-16 halftime lead. Senior guard Cliff Turner contributed 11 points for Dirigo.

Senior center Aaron Lane paced the Cobras (0-2) with five field goals and three free throws for 13 points.

Hall-Dale 54, St. Dom’s 42

AUBURN — Senior guard Ryan Leach posted 17 points as Hall-Dale exploded in the fourth quarter to rip St. Dom’s 54-42 in boys’ basketball action Monday.

The Saints (1-1) battled tough in the first half, trailing by just two at the midpoint. Junior guard Kurt Johnson scored a team-high 14 points on six field goals and two free throws. Senior guard Peter Keaney chipped in with 13 points.

The Bulldogs (2-0) turned a one-point deficit after three into an explosive final quarter, ripping everything apart in sight for a 23-10 run. Senior center Damian Melnicore contributed 10 points in the winning effort.

Boothbay 58, Lisbon 51

LISBON — Senior guard Dan Dickinson scored a team-high 15 points to lead Boothbay to a 58-51 overtime victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.

Tobey Harrington nailed the game-tying basket just before regulation to keep the Greyhound’s (0-2) hopes alive. But, the Seahawks (2-0) came swooping down in overtime with a 10-3 margin for the win.

Senior forwards Biran Hubbard and Scott Alley recorded 10 and 14 points, respectively, for Boothbay. Senior guards Scott Eck and Chris Whitney posted 15 and 11 points for Lisbon in the losing effort.

St. Dom’s 2, York 1

YORK – Kayla Mclellan scored twice to lead St. Dom’s to a 2-1 victory over York in girls’ hockey action.

Allie Hebert assisted on one of the goals. York finally scored on goalie Nicole Keaney with 45 seconds to play.

Girls’ basketball

Mountain Valley 35, Madison 24

MADISON – Ayla Allen scored 18 points contributed more than half of the Falcons points as Mountain Valley soared to a 35-24 victory over Madison.

The Falcons (1-0) took an 18-12 lead into the half. Allen dropped in the game-high 18 points.

The Bulldogs (0-1) responded with a 10-6 run in the third quarter, but Mountain Valley went 9-for-10 from the foul line in the final quarter.

Senior Bianca Soutamyer and senior forward Ali Russell recorded eight points apiece for Madison.

Yarmouth 48, Poland 23

POLAND – Sophomore center Morgan Cahill notched a game-high 19 points to lead Yarmouth to a 48-23 victory over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Clippers (1-0) bolted out to a 27-8 halftime lead. Junior guard Devin Simsarian pitched in with 12 points.

The Knights (0-1) forced more than 20 turnovers, but couldn’t capitalize. Senior forward Kim Wallingford connected for a pair of 3-point baskets, while Sara Sands posted six steals for Poland.

Dirigo 47, Mt. Abram 20

DIXFIELD – Junior Hannah Knight paced Dirigo to a 47-20 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball.

The Cougars (1-0) led 22-13 at the half and turned up the heat in the third quarter with a 16-4 run. Senior forward Morgan Hutchins hauled down 12 rebounds, six on offense and six on defense, to go along with eight points and six steals.

The Roadrunners (0-1) showcased a young team. Freshmen MyKayla Luce and Jill Howard recorded a pair of field goals each for eight of Mt. Abram’s 20 points.

Greenville 31, Rangeley 28

RANGELEY – In a game that could have gone either way, Greenville stayed away from Rangeley just long enough in the final quarter to beat the Lakers, 31-28, in a girls’ basketball opener Saturday.

Greenville held Rangeley to just three points in the final stanza to slip away with a victory. Greenville’s Gretel Barton scored 12 points. For the Lakers, Emily Carrier scored the team-high nine points and dropped in a pair of 3-pointers.

Although it was a low scoring game, Greenville built a slim 16-13 lead after the first half.
