Dorothy Jacubouis
1936 – 2009
AUBURN — Dorothy Jane Jacubouis, 73, of Brunswick, for many years a resident of New Gloucester, passed away on Dec. 12, at the Hospice House.
Beloved wife of Michael Jacubouis, she was born on Aug. 3, 1936, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Raymond and Miriam (Conway) Healey. She attended college at Clark University in Worcester, majoring in English. She then attended Simmons College in Boston, where she earned a master’s degree in library science and worked in that field in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, and Alaska.
Later she worked as a medical transcriptionist, retiring in 1996 from the Central Maine Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program. With her husband, she was active in the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Gray-New Gloucester Lions Club and the National Federation of the Blind.
She served as coordinator of the New Gloucester Food Cooperative. She enjoyed tidewater canoeing trips to Beal Island and Nubble Bay Camp, river canoeing and ski touring in New Hampshire. Together she and Michael loved walking their dogs in all seasons along the Atwood Road in New Gloucester, listening to Prairie Home Companion on Saturday evenings and attending the annual Common Ground Fair. She enjoyed reading, gardening and preserving home-grown organic produce and also the care and company of many cats.
She and Michael attended the First Congregational-Christian Church, United Church of Christ, in New Gloucester.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; her brother, Edward and his wife, Pat Healey, of Worcester, Mass.; and nephews, Lt. Col. Daniel Healey, Thomas Healey, John Healey and Maj. Edward Healey, their spouses and children.
She was predeceased by nephew, Michael Healey.
