MEXICO — Selectmen plan to meet with the boards of the water and sewer districts to work out a priority list for road construction.

Town Manager John Madigan and Road Commissioner David Errington had worked out a priority list for using the $2.9 million bond voters approved for road work in November. However, some pipes must be laid.

“We must coordinate. The water district must have their own needs,” Madigan said.

The town plans to use the approved bond as needed, and not all at once. Madigan said he also hopes to have all engineering work done within the next six months or so. Once that work is done, he plans to apply for a Community Development Block Grant that could pay for some sewer, water or road work during 2011.

For next summer, the Swett Avenue project will likely be completed, along with some of the smaller streets. Osgood Avenue, which also requires the laying of water lines, may also be constructed.

In other matters, the board reviewed a plan for construction of a new restroom at the Mexico Recreation Park. The town has raised $30,000 so far that would go toward the project. It is expected to cost about $75,000. Plans are to apply for a Community Development Block Grant that would pay the rest of the cost.

The present restroom facility is not functioning so park visitors must use Port a Potties.

The board also approved spending about $7,400 from the public works capital reserve account for a new plow. It also approved bringing in an engineer to study repairs needed at the fire station.
