LEWISTON — The Lisa Giguere Scholarship Committee is accepting applications from 2010 graduating seniors at Lewiston High School, Edward Little High School and St. Dominic Regional High School who have an interest in print or electronic journalism.

The scholarship is in its sixth year and awards up to $2,500 annually to seniors who complete the required application package and meet the following criteria:

write a 500-word, double-spaced essay demonstrating a desire and
conviction to further a career in journalism; and,

• graduating senior in good standing and attending a post-secondary school in the fall of 2010

• write a 500-word, double-spaced essay demonstrating a desire and conviction to follow a career in journalism; and,

• provide letters of recommendation and most recent high school transcript.

Supporting documentation, such as school papers or other writing samples, should be included with the package.

The scholarship, in recognition of the late Lisa Giguere who was a dedicated journalist with the Sun Journal for 30 years, was created by her husband, Ralph Tuttle of Auburn, in partnership with the Costello family, publishers of the Sun Journal.

Journalism careers can now be found in photography, on television and the Internet, as well as in print media. The scholarship seeks to identify promising young journalists and help them develop their talent and interests.

Applications are available at the high schools or at the Sun Journal offices, 104 Park St. Completed applications are due in the school’s guidance department by May 3. Scholarships will be awarded at a formal presentation at the Sun Journal offices on Park Street.

The fund is supported by private donations. Contributions are tax deductible and may be made to the Lisa Giguere
