CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will present the Maine bluegrass group Evergreen Sunday, Feb. 21, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center.

Evergreen has been entertaining New England audiences since 1991. Its eclectic style blends elements of bluegrass, folk, blues, old-time, country and swing.

The band known for its tight harmonies, original interpretations and good-natured banter onstage will perform at 3 p.m., with a preshow jam session open to audience members at 2:15 p.m.

Evergreen members pride themselves on creating a relaxed, fun atmosphere onstage. Their shows are choreographed around a single mic, and they all take turns fronting the band.

Steve Chiasson, the group’s founder, is a veteran of the club scene, and has been singing, playing guitar and honing his songwriting craft since starting his first garage band in 1965. He has won a number of songwriting awards, and several of his songs have been recorded and released by various independent artists. Chiasson also plays bass and runs Forest Audio Services in his hometown of Wellington.

Chris Prickitt is an accomplished banjo player with a flair for both Scruggs-style and old-fashioned claw hammer-style. He has appeared with The Kennebec Valley Boys, The Northern Valley Boys, The Pleasin’ Keys and The Reely Clever Good As Ever Band. He plays guitar, fiddle, bass, mandolin and accordion.

Nel Kennedy plays bass, guitar, mandolin and Autoharp. She cut her musical teeth on bluegrass, folk and country-rock, and spent a good part of her early career with the Misty Mountaineers. She recorded three albums with the Mistys, plus one with her husband, Joe, as a member of the band Breakneck Mountain. She and her husband produced and promoted the Breakneck Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Crawford from 1984 to 1995.

Harmonica player extraordinaire Joe Kennedy also plays bass. He has performed and recorded with Bluegrass Supply Company, The Kennebec Valley Boys and Breakneck Mountain. He helped form the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine.
