NEW VINEYARD — Voters will be asked to act on amendments to the 1992 New Vineyard Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and a Wind Energy Facility Moratorium Ordinance at the annual town meeting on Saturday, March 13.
The state required municipalities to adopt shoreland
zoning ordinances consistent with, or no less stringent than, the
minimum state guidelines by July 1, 2009. However, New Vineyard got an extension to April 1 because it has shown good
intentions by reviewing proposed amendments.
The revised town ordinance uses Maine Department of Environmental Protection guidelines.
Copies of it and a copy of the state guidelines are available at the town office for inspection prior to town meeting. Anyone wishing further information may contact the Planning Board by calling Richard Hargreaves at 652-2366.
Voters will also be asked to consider a commercial Wind Energy Facility Moratorium Ordinance. It is not intended to prevent development in New Vineyard, but will give the town 180 days to develop an ordinance before there is an actual wind facility proposal in the works. At the present time, the town has no wind facility review authority.
