RUMFORD – A public informational meeting on plans to replace Martin Memorial Bridge in Rumford Point has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. March 16 at the Rumford Falls Auditorium.
Susan Murphy, a spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Transportation, said a winter storm caused the scheduling change.
The decades-old, steel-trussed, three-span bridge crosses the Androscoggin River near the intersection of Routes 2 and 232.
Like many similar bridges that have been replaced in recent years, the Martin Memorial Bridge is not high enough or wide enough to accommodate modern-day vehicles.
The MDOT will present alignment options for the bridge replacement, including leaving it as it is or moving it upstream or downstream.
The project engineer, Leanne Timberlake, said the replacement is expected to cost between $11 million and $14 million. The earliest it would be built is 2012.
