Proposed budget reflects increase
CHESTERVILLE — Voters will be asked on Monday, March 8, to consider a proposed 2010 budget of $602,417, $14,435 more than last year’s spending plan, Town Clerk Patricia Gordon said.
Overall, residents will have 58 articles to act on.
Prior to town meeting discussion, which begins at 7 p.m. at the town office, voters will be asked to cast ballots on two uncontested races for selectman and RSU 9 school director.
Voting for the elections is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. that day at the town office.
Incumbent Selectman David Archer is seeking re-election to a three-year term.
Erin Dyar is seeking election to Regional School Unit 9, three-year board of director’s seat. The term is currently held by Vice Chairwoman Charisse Keach, who is not running again.
Some municipal accounts are down and some are up, Gordon said.
Among the accounts showing an increase is solid waste, which is proposed at $8,000 more than 2009. Town officials are also proposing $16,000 for a salt shed and $42,000 for work on Smith Road.
Among the accounts showing a decrease are equipment and maintenance, down $5,000, Gordon said.
Two municipal positions up for vote
TEMPLE — Two town positions will be elected from the floor during the annual town meeting on Monday, March 8.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.
Up for election are a three-year selectman’s term, currently held by Austin Foss, and a one-year position for road commissioner, currently held by Raymond Nile.
There are no major or controversial issues on the warrant, Selectman Kathy Lynch said.
There is a small increase in the proposed budget, but the plan is to take some of it out of surplus to offset it, she said. The majority of the increase is due to Franklin County government changing from a January-to- December budget year to a July-1-to-June-30 budget year in 2009, she said. Towns became responsible for a one-time 18-month budget process.
The overall proposed budget is $297,052,70, which represents a $18,985 increase, Lynch said.
