NORTH TURNER – The congregation of the North Turner Presbyterian Church will celebrate Maine’s fifth season: mud. The annual Mud Supper, which features all things brown, is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at the GAR Hall, Route 219.

The annual event marks the emergence from the snowbound winter into the mud which signals spring can’t be far away. While the cooks at the church polish up their recipes, it gives community members a chance to enjoy each others company, get out of the house and begin talking about upcoming community events.

The supper features all homemade food and usually includes traditional beans and hot dogs, casseroles with golden brown crusts, chili, Oklahoma dirt cake, rock cake and other recipes reflecting the brown theme. There will be homemade bread and desserts as well. A goodwill donation will be taken at the door and everyone is welcome.

Over the winter, members of the congregation have been welcoming some new faces and completing their Heifer Project which has been ongoing for three years. More than $4,500 was raised for the project which provides animals to poor villages and teaches them to raise, breed and provide for their families using the eggs, wool, milk and meat produced. A celebration with a representative of Heifer International was held on Feb. 28 at the church.

The children of the new Sunday School provided a Christmas program on Christmas Eve with angels, shepherds and kings in attendance. Everyone with children is invited to come and visit any Sunday morning. Church services begin at 9 a.m. and the children go downstairs for Sunday School shortly after service begins.

The Men’s Work Group is completing a total renovation of the Sunday School room with new colors and furnishings.
