Jane S. Emerson

1918 – 2010

AUBURN — Jane Seavey Emerson, 91, died at home Sunday, March 28.

She was born in Lewiston, Nov. 5, 1918, the daughter of the late John Stark Seavey and Gertrude Miller Seavey.

She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1936, from Colby-Sawyer College, in New London, N.H., in 1938, and continued her education at Bates College and Wheelock College in Boston, Mass.

She married the late Walter L. Emerson Jr. on Sept. 6, 1941. During her active years, she served as president of the Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine Medical Center and was a director for 25 years.

Her many interests and affiliations included; president of the Parish Guild of the High Street Congregational Church, president of the Lewiston-Auburn Art and Literature Club, as well as the Wheelock Club of Portland. She was a member of the Mary Dillingham Chapter of the DAR, a member of the Auburn Art Club, a life member of the Mayflower Society, and a covenant 50-year member of the High Street Congregational Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jane Emerson Linnell of Auburn and Mary Emerson of New Canaan, Conn., three grandsons, John Emerson Linnell of Auburn, Andrew Aloian and John Aloian, of New Canaan, Conn.; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Linnell of Lisbon; and a great-grandson, Colby Linnell of Auburn.
