100 years ago, 1910

While the weather has been favorable for ice making, the snowstorm of last night will somewhat delay the work of cutting on the Androscoggin. Until this storm the fields were in perfect condition. Now it will be necessary to get out the scrapers before the work of harvesting can progress further.

50 years ago, 1960

Three new members were welcomed at a meeting of the Paisanets Tuesday evening at the Sons of Italy Hall on the College Road. They were Mrs. Antoinette Aliberti, Mrs. Sarah Paione and Mrs. Clara Guerriero.

During the business session plans were discussed for a joint meeting with the men’s lodge next Wednesday evening.

A social hour followed and lunch was served under direction of Mrs. Rose Ouellette.

25 years ago, 1985

William C. Harkins, executive vice president of the Lewiston-Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the Maine Attorney General’s Business Advisory Committee.

Designed to monitor business practices in Maine and to recommend policies for handling consumer complaints, the group will hold its first meeting of the year at the attorney general’s office, State House Office Building, on January 23, according to Stephen L. Wessler, assistant attorney general in the Consumer and Antitrust Division.

Harkins represents the Maine State Chamber of Commerce & Industry on the committee.
