The second automobile club in the state was formed in Auburn last evening under the name of the Twin City Automobile Club. Its primary purposes are to organize local auto owners and dealers to improve the conditions of surrounding roads, particularly that encircle Lake Auburn. Another meeting will be held next Monday evening at which the temporary organization will be made permanent

50 years ago, 1960

Formal opening of the gift shop at St. Mary’s General Hospital will be held this afternoon for the patronesses of the hospital, who are holding their monthly meeting at the hospital at 2:15 this afternoon.

Mrs. Vincent H. Beeaker is chairman of the committee which has established and will direct the gift shop, which is known as The Wishing Well. Occupying part of the lobby, it is an attractive room with pink walls, grey fixtures and bright curtains of grey with a pink and aqua travel pattern showing all types of gifts.

The 1985 Maine Music Awards will be presented at a special show on April 14th at the Kamalot Inn in Lisbon.

The 7 p.m. show will feature music by Magic, Legend, Phoenix and Schooner Fare. Nominees for this year’s awards include:

Best Group: Magic, Buffalo Chip Tea, Scott Folsom Band, Legend, Cornerstone.

Best Single: “Rock to Riches,” 4 Bands; Push ‘N The Bush,” Flesh-a-poids; “Portland Town,” Schooner Fare.

Best Album: Devon Square, Rock’n Roll Cowboy, Bill Chinnock.

Best Radio Station: WIGY, WGAN-FM, WBLM, WTOS
