100 years ago, 1910

Of special interest to the children at Music Hall this afternoon will be the electric dog, monkey and cat circus exhibited by Madame Clethia. These clever animals do several interesting and difficult tricks. The finale of the act shows a grand electrical display with a group of dogs dancing, while a whirl-i-gig illuminated with a large number of tiny incandescent lamps is suspended in mid-air — making a very beautiful sight.

50 years ago, 1960

Measles and German measles cases appeared to be on the climb the past week, making the rounds of young Lewiston schoolchildren.

Some 41 measles cases and 23 of German measles were reported to the Lewiston health Office between Monday and Friday. Mrs. Cecile Levasseur, health officer, said the childhood diseases usually run in cycles, and this appears to be the year for measles.

25 years ago, 1985

John Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Health Academy, will give an overview of self-defense techniques Thursday evening as part of the Auburn YWCA’s Women’s Health Series.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. at the J. K. Anthony House, 248 Turner St. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a towel. A small fee is charged.
