JAY — State Rep. Paul Gilbert has announced his candidacy for re-election to serve a second term in the Maine House of Representatives.

He represents the residents of House District 87, which is comprised of the towns of Chesterville, Jay, Mercer, New Sharon and Starks. He serves on the legislature’s Joint Committee on Labor.

Gilbert has a strong commitment to good jobs, education, social justice and affordable health care for all.

“We are facing complex problems with no easy simple solutions,” he said. There is a need for respect and open communication that bring about results that are in the best interest of the people we serve.”

Gilbert said he believes he has the experience and the skills to work in that framework.

He is a lifelong resident of Jay and graduate of Jay High School. He served three years active duty in the U.S. Army. After that he attended the University of Maine at Farmington, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1972.

Paul has more than 30 years of private and public sector management experience. He managed supermarkets prior to his long career as a job service manager at the Maine Department of Labor.

Paul and Jean have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
