KINGFIELD — The first annual June town meeting produced a modestly increased 2010-11 budget.
On Saturday morning, voters raised and appropriated $776,716 for the coming year’s costs to run the town, according to administrative assistant Douglas Marble.
“We approved $22,000 more than last year, but we stayed under the amount that we were allowed to increase over last year by $10,000,” he said.
Attendees approved the formation of a committee to consider conservation easement possibilities for town-owned land on Route 27 at the south entrance to the town, but they decided against a moratorium on wind farm development until they have a project to consider.
The three-person board of selectmen increased to five with little fanfare, according to Marble.
Voters elected Sarah Churchill over John Dill to serve a one-year term as selectman. Dill served many years as a town officer, but Churchill, a newcomer, narrowly defeated him.
“It was a close race,” town clerk Leanna Targett said. “Sarah got 64 votes, and John got 60.”
Raymond Meldrum ran unopposed to serve a three-year term. Chairman Heather Moody was re-elected to serve another three-year term, and SAD 58 incumbent school board member Judy Dill will serve another three-year term.
Voters rejected the proposal to spend $10,000 to repair a wall at Riverside Cemetery but approved spending $13,300 to maintain the property.
