BETHEL — Selectmen will convene a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, June 28, in the town office to wrap up remaining police department matters before the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office takes over town law enforcement on Thursday, July 1.
Earlier this month during town meeting balloting, a majority of voters decided to contract with the county for coverage. That means the town department will be disbanded.
Town Manager Jim Doar said Friday afternoon that one matter selectmen must decide is severance pay for police Lt. S. R. White, Bethel’s lone full-time officer.
Doar said the transition to county coverage this month has been “smooth.”
“There have been no issues,” he added.
