Through the carelessness of some boy Saturday night, a Lewiston man, has lost the sight of one eye. The man was walking along Lower Lisbon Street at about 10 o’clock Saturday evening when someone threw a cannon cracker in the air near him. It exploded while in mid-air, putting out one of his eyes. The man was taken to Ste. Marie General Hospital for treatment.

State Rep. Louis Jalbert of Lewiston said yesterday he will introduce a bill at the next session of the Legislature which would require the state to notify motorists in advance of the time their driver’s licenses are due for renewal.

Driver’s licenses expire on the holder’s birth date and the notices which would be required by Jalbert’s bill would be sent out two weeks prior to that date.

Since the scheme of renewing driver’s licenses on the holder’s birthday went into effect, many forgetful drivers have failed to renew licenses by the expiration date.
