NEW GLOUCESTER — The following special events will take place on Saturday, July 10, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26:

Spinning demonstration: Members of the R and R Spinners will demonstrate their spinning skills and show some of their creations at a demonstration beginning at 10 a.m.

Heirloom Seed Workshop: The Shakers were the first to sell seed packets. The workshop will take participants to the Shaker gardens to learn about saving seeds, early varieties, heirloom plants and go home with many seeds. Led by Betsey-Ann Golon, head of the Shaker herb gardens. Fee is $40. Preregistration is required.

Nature hikes: Guided tours of the fields, forests, lakeshore and mill stream are the highlights of the monthly nature hikes. Hikes are offered twice a day beginning at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Fee is $5 for adults; $2, children; free, under 6.

Woodworking, Shaker Style Bench: Led by master craftsman and Shaker neighbor Chris Becksvoort, attendees will make a Shaker-style pine bench that could also be a small side table. The use of mortise and tenon joints will be taught. Tools are required. Fee is $40. Preregistration is required.
