FARMINGTON — A Maine Department of Transportation project at the busy intersection of the Intervale and Route 2 and 27 has construction workers cutting trees and unloading large sections of pipe this week in preparation for a procedure that will rehabilitate twin culverts running under the intersection.
Workers for CPM Constructors of Freeport will repair the existing culverts without taking them out by pulling the new pipes through the existing drainage pipes that have gone bad, a slip-line procedure, said Terry Daggett, site foreman.
The advantage of this procedure is that the road won’t have to be torn up. The work will be done underground.
The culverts drain from a stream around Hippach Field coming from Abbott Brook at Rollo Pond, he said.
The contractor has until August 20 to complete the work.
According to the MDOT website, CPM Constructors submitted the lowest bid at just over $360,000 for the project.
