Grange picnic
WALES — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet for their annual picnic after 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Hatch Farm. Members are asked to bring their own lunches, lawn chairs and either a salad or dessert to share.
Grills will be available for cooking. All members and guests are welcome. Rain date will be Thursday, Aug. 26.
OES picnic
LEWISTON — Members of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will have their annual family summer picnic starting at 11 a.m. Sunday Aug. 15. It will be held at the home of Ellie Peterson, 263 Central Ave., rain or shine.
Members should bring meat to grill and a salad or dessert to share. Attendees are welcome to bring bathing suits for a swim in the pool. For more information, call Peterson at 782-8589 or Betty Perkins at 784-9485.
‘Zebras’ wanted
LEWISTON — A new division of crew has been developed at the Great falls Balloon Festival to help the balloon launches go off easier. “Zebras” will be used for traffic control from the launch sites and will be responsible to see that the fields are secure and safe, not only for the pilots but the audience as well.
Zebras will be identified with reflective vests with zebra material on the vest. These people will be on the grounds half-hour before and during each launch to help expedite chase crew movement on and existing the launch sites. Approximately 15 volunteers are needed to take on the Zebra role during the festival.
To volunteer, call 782-2637 and leave a name and phone number. Zebra volunteers must be 16 years old or older.
Grant recipients
MINOT — The Minot United Methodist Church board of trustees has announced the 2010-11 recipients of the Hartwell Pratt Educational Grant. Each year, church members and members of their immediate family are eligible to apply for the grant, which is given in memory of Pratt and his interest in education.
Five grants of $2,000 each were awarded to Christine Hofferberth, Valerie Foster, William Griffiths, Andrew Hartman and Richard Griffiths.
