BUCKFIELD — A 23-year-old man remained in jail on Wednesday afternoon on a sexual-assault charge stemming from an incident on Tuesday night.
Kyle Hugh McCafferty of Allen Way was charged with gross sexual assault and violating conditions of release. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance in the South Paris District Court on Thursday, Aug. 12.
According to an affidavit by Lt. Tom Harriman of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, a 19-year-old woman said she went to McCafferty’s residence on Tuesday night. She said McCafferty had been drinking and wanted to have sex, and that he raped her after she refused.
McCafferty admitted to having sex with the woman, but said it was consensual.
McCafferty’s violating conditions of release charge was brought because he was charged with eluding an officer in September and one of his conditions of release included no new criminal conduct.
