A public recorder recital was held at the Paris Public Children’s Library on Aug. 18. During the summer, librarian Joan Parker, who has an extensive background in music, taught children how to play their instruments, purchased by the library. After 8 hours of instruction, which included knowledge of various composers, the children were able to identify many musical signs, read musical notation, perform special techniques such as the rest and slur and play many songs together as a well honed group. The performers, from left, are Amber Lynch, Caleb Lynch, Chloe Hodgdon, Kay Gee, Lauren Ruby and Kelly Whittemore. Some of the selections played were “Hot Cross Buns,” “Au Clair de la Lune,” “Little Tommy Tittlemouse,” “Jingle Bells” and “Ode to Joy.”
