SABATTUS — The Sabattus Police Department is accepting applications for its first ever Citizens Police Academy. Deadline for application is Friday, Aug. 27. The academy will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Sept. 2, at the Police Department.

The 11-week program will offer insights into how police officers perform their duties and how the Sabattus Police Department serves the community. The goal of the academy is to foster better communication between citizens and police through education.

Graduates of the academy will be exposed to some of the entry-level training received by officers in order to understand the rationale behind police actions, learn about the structure and the activities of their police department and have an interactive forum for officers and participants to share information and gain a greater understanding of police practices.

Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are available at the Town Office, Police Department, Stevens Hardware, Main St. Market, The Settlement and Oak Hill Cash Market.

For more information, contact Lieutenant Matt Prince at 375-6952 or mprince@sabattus.org.
