LEWISTON — Tom Ouellette, founder and president of Budget Document Technology with offices in Lewiston and Bangor, recently assumed the position of 2010-11 president-elect of the Business Technology Association, a trade association headquartered in Kansas City, Mo. Ouellette was elected to the position by the association’s voting members.

Founded in 1926, BTA provides educational programs, research, information, business development opportunities and various support services to independent office technology dealerships nationwide. As president-elect, Ouellette will help oversee the programs and services of the organization for its 750 office technology dealership, manufacturer and supplier members nationwide. He will assume the national presidency on July 1, 2011.

Ouellette entered the industry nearly 26 years ago. He attended the Electronics Computer Programmer Institute in Chesapeake, Va., and after graduating began his career as a service technician working on electronic typewriters and copiers.

In 1989, he founded his company, Budget Document Technology, in his garage as a single-man operation. Since then, the company has grown to a dealership with 20 employees. The company, which markets products from Kyocera Mita and Konica Minolta, electronic document imaging and managed print services, is headquartered in Lewiston.
