CARTHAGE — Janice Phylis Berry, 87, of Carthage, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 28, at her home in Carthage, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Peru on Jan. 23, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Lydia Phinney Knox.

As a very young woman, she worked at the Bates Mill in Lewiston and Diamond International in Peru.

On June 15, 1947, she married, Sidney Berry in Carthage where they made their home and started their family.

Janice enjoyed baking, crocheting, various puzzles and games, camping, four-wheeling and shopping with her daughters.

She is survived by her children, Roger Berry Sr. and his wife, Barbara, of Carthage, Paul Berry of Carthage, Carl Berry Sr. and his wife, Joyce, of Connecticut, Willis Berry of Carthage, Robert Berry of Carthage, Bernard Berry and his wife, Joaquina, of Peru, Sherwood Berry and his wife, Peggy, of Carthage, Deborah Berry of Carthage, Shirley Garland and her husband, David, of Turner, Pamela Bradbury and her husband, Barry, of Raymond, N.H., Gladys Carver and her husband, Rob, of Carthage, and Glenda Deroehn and her husband, Alan, of Rumford; guardian son, Sidney Berry, of Carthage; three sisters, Muriel Cormier of Auburn, Evangeline Jackson of Carthage, and Geraldine Virgin of Mexico; 27 grandchildren; and 25 great- grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney, on Oct. 23, 1982; a son, Ronald Berry; a daughter, Jeannette Wing; brothers, Llewellyn, Erwin, Randall, Theodore, Donald and Eugene Knox; and a sister, Dermaline Cyr.
