For the first time in 10 years, Auburn’s school enrollment has increased, according to figures released Wednesday night by Superintendent of Schools Roy D. Loux.

Figures for the first day of classes show 4,507 students enrolled in Auburn’s 13 schools, compared to 4,506 students enrolled on the first day of classes in 1984.

Loux said enrollment has declined by as much as 100 to 200 students in past years because the graduating classes have been larger than the incoming kindergarten classes.
