NEW GLOUCESTER — Police were investigating a possible drowning death Monday after a body was found in 10 to 12 feet of water off Outlet Beach, according to a statement from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The body was later identified as Norman Chasse, 51, of New Gloucester.

Police said at 6:21 p.m. a woman closing down her snack shack noticed belongings on the beach. Someone used a kayak to paddle out to a float roughly 30 yards offshore and found Chasse in the water underneath.

The statement said the  sheriff’s office and state Medical Examiner’s Office will be investigating.
