CHESTERVILLE — A local man was arrested early Monday after he was accused of stabbing a Livermore Falls man twice during an altercation late Sunday, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Deputy Christopher Chase arrested Michael Meader, 62, of Chesterville on a charge of aggravated assault, Yeaton said Tuesday. Meader posted $500 cash bail and was released from jail the same day. He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Nov. 19.

If convicted, the charge carries up to 10 years in prison.

Meader was at his residence on Ridge Road when a 29-year-old Livermore Falls man came over to pay money that he owed Meader, Yeaton said.

After the money was paid, the two got into an altercation and the victim walked out the door, he said. There are differing opinions of what went on, he said.

Meader allegedly grabbed a large kitchen knife and followed the victim out the door, Yeaton said.

According to a witness, Meader started stabbing the man, he said.

The two got into another tussle, and Meader was kicked in the face, Yeaton said.

The victim noticed then that he had a rather substantial, knife wound to his left upper arm and another puncture wound in the left chest area, Yeaton said.

The victim went to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for treatment of two stab wounds, he said.

Meader had a cut above his right eye and a bruise on the inside of his right arm, Yeaton said. It was unknown if Meader went to the hospital for treatment.
