MONMOUTH — Pirates, delightful young maidens and officers of the constabulary will fill the stage in the Theater at Monmouth’s fall musical, “The Pirates of Penzance.”

The only Gilbert and Sullivan production to premier in the United States, “The Pirates of Penzance” has proved over time to be one of the duo’s most popular musicals.

The story revolves around the dashing Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to The Pirate King and his band of tenderhearted pirates. Frederic meets Mabel, daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall in love. Frederic finds out, however, that it is not so easy to leave his life with the pirates behind.

Major-General Stanley will be played by TAM favorite Mark S. Cartier, who was seen in Hollywood’s “The Box,” starring Cameron Diaz; Joey Wilgenbush will play The Pirate King; Alex Hoff will play Frederic; TAM favorite Dennis A. Price will appear as Samuel, The Pirate King’s lieutenant; and Colleen Gallagher will play Mabel.

The production will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. There will be additional evening performances on Sept. 23, 24, 25, and 30; and Oct. 1-2. Matinee shows will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sept. 26, and Oct. 2-3. Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and matinees, $20 for students. For tickets, call 933-9999 or visit www.theateratmonmouth.org.

After the show, audience members can enjoy complimentary food and drinks, and meet Director David Greenham and cast members.

The Theater at Monmouth, founded in 1970, is in historic Cumston Hall.
