LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, continues its monthly programming including workshops for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability.
The Unemployed Professionals Group meets every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. to support under- and unemployed professionals. Each week, a guest speaker from the business community addresses the group on a topic related to personal or professional development or job search skills. Topics by week:
Oct. 4: “Insurance solutions centered on you: Making sense of insurance today; Helping you make informed decisions for you and your family,” with Anthony D’Andrea, licensed insurance agent, Insphere Insurance Solutions.
Oct. 11: No meeting, Columbus Day.
Oct. 18: Open forum. Bring your job search challenges for an open and solution-oriented discussion. Leader, Cher Tyra, WMCA, Lewiston Career Center.
Oct. 25: “The Multigenerational Work Place” with Genevieve Straight, Accountemps.

The Industry Information Tuesday, scheduled for Oct. 19 from 9 to 11 a.m., will feature tourism and hospitality. Registration is required.
Other workshops offered at the CareerCenter include “Career Decision Making,” a two-part workshop that meets from 9 a.m. to noon. On Monday you will discuss tools you can use to help make career decisions. On the second day you will use the information you gained to make your career plans. Registration is required. Meeting dates are Oct. 4 and 7, or Oct. 18 and 22.
“Family Self-Sufficiency,” Oct. 6 or 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is for those who are Lewiston Housing Authority or Section 8 participants. Are you living paycheck to paycheck? “Jump Start Your Job Search,” every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., gives an overview of basic information on resumes, interviews and job search skills as well as the CareerCenter and community services that are available during a job search. Registration is required.
“Job Search Skills,” Oct. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will help you conduct an effective job search. In this workshop, you will learn how employers advertise and hire and methods you can use in your job search that will lead to success. Registration required. This workshop will also be held at the Auburn Public Library on Oct. 12. Call 333-6640 to register for that location.
“Job Search Skills for People with a Criminal History” is held in conjunction with the regularly scheduled workshop. People interested in this component will stay for a third hour (12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) to learn strategies to overcome perceived and real barriers.
“Resume Basics and Interview Skills,” Oct. 14 or 28, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Explore the basics of resumes and applications and learn how to make your resume and interview stand out in a positive way. Learn to market yourself in a way that directly matches employer needs. “Tough” interview questions will be discussed so that you can answer them with confidence. Registration required. The FOCUS on Your Job Search Group meets every Tuesday at 2 p.m. Participants meet with an employment counselor and other business and community experts to discuss job search challenges and strategies. Through both these groups, participants will receive support, mentoring and guidance for a successful job search.
The “CareerCenter Training Orientation” is an overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. Ask CareerCenter staff for the schedule of meetings and to register (required).
“Essentials of College Planning for Adults,” Oct. 13 or 27, starts at 10 a.m. and lasts about two to three hours. Learn about college and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. Review a typical admissions application, request admissions materials and financial aid information from prospective colleges. You will complete the financial aid form. Bring last year’s income tax forms. Registration required.
On Oct. 6, 13, 20 or 27, from 10:15 to 11 a.m., an adult education representative will be available to help you explore options to improve job skills and which adult education programs or classes will best meet your needs based on your interests and career goals.
The Career Center and Women, Work and Community are offering a workshop on self-esteem. The three-session workshop will explore the concept of self-esteem, work on building self-confidence and reflect on self-presentation during interview settings. These workshops will be held on successive Tuesdays, Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants must attend all three sessions. The workshop will be held at the CareerCenter.
