FARMINGTON — Theatre UMF will present “Rabbit Hole,” David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, running Oct. 21-24. A simple yet touching story about a family’s struggle to overcome a tragic accident, the play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m., Sunday at Alumni Theater on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
“Rabbit Hole” is the story of Becca and Howie Corbett, a couple whose seemingly perfect world is turned upside down by the death of a child. In danger of drifting perilously apart, the Corbetts forge ahead in their search for comfort in the darkest of places and try to recapture some of the happiness they once knew.
Painful, poignant and often funny, the drama shows how everybody’s unique skills allow them to cope with grief in their own way.
Directed by Peter Simmel, UMF associate professor of theater, the play features a small cast and offers honest dialogue. Cast members include Coty McLaughlin of Dixfield and Richard Russell of Rumford.
“This play is an actor’s and director’s dream,” said Simmel. “The language is crisp and well-written and resonates like a real conversation.”
Besides winning the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for drama, “Rabbit Hole” also received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Play and the Spirit of America Award. Lindsay-Abaire was most recently awarded the 2008 Ed Kleban Award as America’s most promising musical theater lyricist.
His other shows include “Fuddy Meers,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” “Wonder of the World,” “High Fidelity” and “A Devil Inside.” He recently wrote the screenplay for the Newline feature “Inkheart” and a screen adaptation of “Rabbit Hole” for 20th Century Fox.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for all students and $4 for seniors. Tickets will be available at the time of the show and may be reserved by calling 778-7465.
The play’s content is of an adult nature and suitable for mature audiences only.
