LEWISTON — Homeless Voices for Justice, Lots to Gardens, the Maine People’s Alliance and the Visible Community have invited the legislative candidates for House Districts 71, 72, 73 and 74, and Senate Districts 15 and 16 to a forum for homeless voters at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Jubilee Center, 247 Bates St.
The center is a significant provider of basic and essential services to the area’s homeless and low-income residents, and has asked that the candidates join an open discussion with Lewiston’s social service consumers.
The candidates’ forum is a key component of ongoing voter education efforts. Homeless Voices for Justice will invite legislative candidates in Augusta, Brunswick and Lewiston to the shelter or soup kitchen to attend a similar forum in each respective district, as well as the Portland City Council candidates, the Congressional District 1 candidates, and gubernatorial candidates to forums at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen later this fall.
