BRIDGTON — Bridgton Hospital will host a health fair focusing on fall prevention, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in the main lobby of the hospital.

“One fall can have frightening and devastating effects on a person’s life,” said Nancy Donovan, Ph.D., PT, director of the physical therapy/rehabilitation department at Bridgton Hospital. According to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2005 more than 15,800 people aged 65 and older died, and 1.8 million more had to go to the emergency room because of a fall.

Vendors will provide basic vision screenings and balance screenings and provide LifeLine information and additional resources.

The fair will begin at 9 a.m. with a presentation by Donovan entitled “Fall Prevention Strategies for Adults and Caregivers.” There will be refreshments and door prizes for attendees.
