TEMPLE — The Koviashuvik Local Living School will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. The public is invited to attend the free event.

Founded in 2008, Koviashuvik is a small school that teaches practical and inexpensive ways for people to live with and use their local land. Tours will start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will include a stone root cellar, earth-bermed greenhouse, rainwater collection systems, log cabin, solar and wood fired hot water systems, alternative cooking technologies, vegetable gardens, and fruit and nut plantings.

There will be ongoing demonstrations on processing acorns into flour. Those attending should note that it is a 10-minute walk from the parking area to the school center. Those unable to walk in should call 778-0318 ahead of time for a shuttle.
