DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few months ago an old map (1938?) of the city of Lewiston was found. Is there any way of finding out if it will be put on display at City Hall or if it will be added to its online site? I think it would be very interesting how much the city was developed at the time. Thank you. — Louise Masse, [email protected]
ANSWER: Sun Spots started on this question by e-mailing Doug Hodgkin of the Androscoggin Historical Society. He said that both his group and Museum L-A had expressed interest in the map and that Sun Spots should approach Deputy City Administrator Phil Nadeau.
Phil queried the staff and discovered that the map is still in city offices. It is actually a 1936 map and shows part, not all, of the city.
The city wishes to retain ownership, but is willing to loan out the map for display. Unfortunately, displaying such a map requires certain facilities, and Doug said the historical society cannot currently accommodate it.
Sun Spots hopes that if the map does become part of a future display either at the society or at Museum L-A that the column will be informed so readers can go see it. To read the original Sun Journal story, visit www.sunjournal.com/node/815766.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I recently purchased a Kindle to lessen the burden of price increases and recycling. I have already subscribed to a couple of news papers and, after getting use to not having to physically shuffle through pages of papers and keeping them around for a week to recycle, I find it much easier to read and navigate to what I want to read, when I want to read right from a little tablet in front of me.
So I was wondering if the Sun Journal could be part of Amazon’s list of papers so I could subscribe to my local paper through Amazon in order to read it on my Kindle? I did not know who to call, so I decided to go through you. Thank you very much. — Gerry, [email protected]
ANSWER: Sun Spots put your question to Executive Editor Rex Rhoades, who said your request was only the second he’d received and that the paper is concentrating on other projects, including a mobile application that we hope to have ready soon.
